Year 9 learnt important home cooking skills on how to create a treat from basic ingredients. They confidently used common pantry ingredients to make a treat. This practical gave students an insight on what they can make at home rather than buying in and the financial benefits of using what they have at home. Students adjusted the recipes and added different flavours to make tasty treats. It was a great lesson and they all enjoyed their new found cooking skills.

Through their programme of free healthy food and fun activities, children and young people can develop new skills, take part in creative and physical activities, learn about food and cooking, and enjoy a nutritious meal each day.
The holiday programme, funded by the Department for Education, is open to school-aged children from reception to year 11 (inclusive) who receive benefits-related free school meals. We are also able to provide a limited number of discretionary places to vulnerable children that do not meet the Free School Meal criteria,

Hewens College welcomed SORTED to present an alcohol awareness assembly. Our guest speaker was very informative and gave an in depth insight to students about the dangers of alcohol and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. The students found the assembly very informative and engaging
On Thursday 15th June students from Hewens College had the opportunity to participate in the 10th anniversary of London Tech week - The A.I SUMMIT - alongside other students within the Trust. This was made possible through the Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust’s partnership with Diversity org. Students interacted with big name businesses during the summit, including Shutterstock, IMB and Google. The students also took part in a Career Exposure Panel workshop where speakers from Google and the University of Surrey shared their education and career pathways. This appeared to encourage and give insight into prospects and potential pathways open to the students to take in their own journeys.
On 6th to 8th June we had our annual compass workshop at the three primary schools within the trust, whereby our Year 7 students go along and work as maths coaches to the Year 6 pupils. The primary pupils were actively engaged and appreciated the support given to them by our helpful Hewens students and mathematics teacher. Thank and well done, you were brilliant ambassadors for the College, and the Year 6 pupils reported having a really informative, fun workshop where they learned how to use compasses and other mathematical skills, ready for secondary school in September

Health issues related to the current warm weather are causing our A&Es to be busier than usual, with waits of up to 11 hours in A&Es at the moment. A&E is for life threatening emergencies. There are lots of NHS services that can help you. Knowing where to go, and when, will help you get the right care when you need it.
Your local high street pharmacy can provide advice and over the counter medication to help with hayfever. You can also contact your GP surgery or call 111 when your GP is closed.

The Universal Youth Service is running the Summer Activities Programme for children and young people in school year 1-12 from Monday 24th July to Friday 25th August 2023. These will be delivered across the borough at South Ruislip, Ruislip, and Harlington Young People's Centre's. If the child/young person is on free school meal (benefit related) in Hillingdon, they will be eligible for a free HAF place which includes a meal each day. If you are a resident or non-resident the cost of the programme is £18:40 per day and activities are booked as a week-long programme.
Year 10 students enjoyed a CV writing workshop delivered by JCP Support for School’s programme. The students learnt some valuable skills and qualities during this session. They will now be able to take this knowledge and implement it for their future universities and job searches. All Year 10 students engaged very well during the session and gave positive feedback of their experience
As part of the Citizenship curriculum, all Year 8 students were assessed on their ability to promote community cohesion by producing a t-shirt design and a piece of creative writing about anti-racism. The winners from each form were chosen by the Humanities Alliance. The winners were: Hamdi Gemachu 8TP; Reggie Ereira 8MS; Shriya Bagga 8HA and Adeeba Khan 8EL. These students were then all entered into the national schools’ competition run by “Show Racism the Red Card”. From over 250,000 students entering the competition nationally, our very own Adeeba won second prize overall! Adeeba was invited to Liverpool Football Club to receive her award and prizes from Niamh Fahey, (Liverpool FC Women’s captain); John Barnes (Former Liverpool and England footballer); Michael Thomas (Former Liverpool and England footballer); Lynne Morris (UNISON Regional Manager) and Paula Wrigley (Thompson’s Solicitors). We would like to congratulate all the winners, but especially Adeeba for her hard work and determination – we are so proud of you!
On 10th May, some of our Year 9 and 10 cricket enthusiasts went on a trip to Lord’s Cricket Ground. They were met by the army who assigned one soldier to every school present to be an escort and premises guide. The students went to the indoor Astro, where a magnificent trophy stood and where countless cricket heroes have completed their training. They played various ball games that helped them to warm up, develop movement skills, hand-eye coordination, throwing and batting skills. They then went to the beautiful pavilion to watch the women’s MCC team play the Armed Forces team. After lunch, the Navy and Army played, with the Navy winning the toss and deciding to bowl. We were able to get a glimpse into the strategy and organisation of how the Navy planned the powerplay. Unfortunately, we were not able to see the match through before having to return, but the weather provided for a very enjoyable experience
