  • Epping Forest

    Our Year 11 GCSE Geographers went on their second field trip to Epping Forest on 19th April. The aim of the trip was to investigate how a river changes from its source (start) to the mouth (end). The students worked in groups to carry out data gathering tasks to measure river depth, width and velocity. Hopefully, they will be able to apply all of what they learnt and experienced on the day when they answer questions on their Paper 2 Geography examination in June.

  • Onion Slides

    Our Year 10 students conducted a biology experiment to investigate onion slides using the light microscope. The investigation helped them to understand the organelles in a plant cell. The students participated with a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm throughout the experiment. We look forward to performing a lot of exciting experiments in future to encourage practical Science learning in Hewens College.

  • A Night At The Musicals - Tonight!

  • Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme - Easter Offer

    Bookings for Hillingdon’s Easter Holiday, Activities and Food (HAF) programme have now opened! Through their programme of free healthy food and fun activities, children and young people can develop new skills, take part in creative and physical activities, learn about food and cooking, and enjoy a nutritious meal each day. 

    The holiday programme is open to school-aged children from reception to Year 11 (inclusive) who receive benefits-related free school meals. They are also able to provide a limited number of discretionary places to vulnerable children that do not meet the Free School Meal criteria, if you would like for a child you are supporting to be considered for a HAF place, please email HAFprogramme@hillingdon.gov.uk with the child's name, date of birth, address and parent contact details. 

    Activities this Easter include: 

    • Learn to ride a bike or develop your cycling skills
    • Football, Cricket, Basketball and multi-sports
    • Parent and child cookery sessions 
    • Dance, drama and arts programmes 
    • Multi-activity camps 
    • Remote Control car racing
    • Coding activities 
    • SEND activity camps
    • Specialist music and drama programmes for asylum/refugee children

  • Army Visit

    On Monday 20th March 2023, we had the pleasure of welcoming three Army Soldiers to Hewens College. Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in a STEM project where they worked in teams to build a catapult from different materials and then fire a tennis ball, measuring its distance. Students were engaged very well throughout the session and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Every group collaborated well and displayed our college values in the correct way.

  • Careers Advice - Year 8

    Year 8 had an eventful week where they were learning about future option choices for their GCSEs. Students met with various industry experts to explore different options for their future. We welcomed Melanie Kindley-Deeks, a Careers Adviser at the Education Development Trust, who delivered a session on making choices for the future. The highlight of the day was the invaluable advice given by industry experts, who ranged from a prison officer, nursery workers, prospective professional rugby players, and an event manager to name but a few. Students really enjoyed their interactions and received some insightful advice and information to help them make their choices.

  • Options Evening

    On Tuesday 28th of February, Hewens College held its year 8 options evening. It was a hugely successful evening with the canteen packed with eager students with their parents/carers. The day started with the students engaged in class-based activities, workshops from professionals and an assembly from a career’s advisor. This was followed in the evening, with parents/ carers being given important information and guidance from subject teachers who were on hand to promote their subject and Mrs Littlefair giving a keynote speech outlining the choices and the process.

  • Year 10 Student Ambassador

    The Year 10 Senior Student Ambassadors recently interviewed students in Year 8 to widen and develop the student leadership body across the College. There were a number of students in Year 8 who applied for the role of Student Ambassador and the interview process was tough and rigorous and we are delighted that a number of Year 8’s were successful and are looking forward to fulfilling their role as a valued Student Ambassador of Hewens College.

  • GCSE Success Evening

    Hewens College organised a successful GCSE success evening where we welcomed Year 11 students and their parents, guardians and carers to give them top tips on how to revise for their upcoming GCSE examinations. The session also provided them with some valuable revision resources. The evening was well attended by students with positive mindsets to reach their full potential; we are sure with some solid hard work they will reach that. Good luck!
