  • Trip to Kew Garden

    On Thursday 12th and Monday 16th of October, Year 7 and Year 8 students visited Kew Gardens. Upon arrival, students made their way to Palm House which is a greenhouse, were temperatures go up to 35 degrees with intense humidity! Even on the day, when it was 13 degrees outside, it was almost unbearably hot inside of the Greenhouse. Students were able to identify the different types of plants, from coffee to cocoa to vanilla plants and other tropical palms, it felt like walking in a rainforest. From there, students made their way to the Temperate House which had exhibitions of flowers, citrus plants and a display promoting the Queer Ecology found in plants. The flowers and indoor artificial waterfall garden was absolutely beautiful.

  • Your Life You Choose

    On Thursday 12th October all students in Year 7 participated in the ‘Your life, you choose’ workshop. The aim was to develop their knowledge and understanding of staying safe in all walks of society. We had guest speakers from the Metropolitan Police, Crime stoppers, MASH and Prison and Ambulance services. The students were excellent and found the workshop incredibly useful. Throughout every session students remained engaged and enthusiastic about the programme.

  • Hayes End Library

    Year 7 students will be visiting Hayes End Library every Wednesday during the Autumn term to develop their literacy skills. On Wednesday 4th October we did our first visit and certainly won’t be the last! Students took part in a reading workshop and got some free books as a reward. Students were very excited and are looking forward to their next visit

    We had a visit from the JCP west London schools career advisors who provided our Year 10 students with an interview skills workshop. Our Year 10 students were really engaged with the process and had a plethora of questions for the advisors. This workshop has made a huge impact on students providing them with the tools to make an informed choice for their future. The advisors spoke highly of the students and their future aspirations in their feedback to the college. The students were very excited after the session and looking forward to their mock interviews in coming months.

  • First Aid

    First Aid is an invaluable life skill. It helps children become more risk aware and equips them with skills to keep themselves safe. Our students in Year 7 took part in First Aid Training today. They learnt about what to do if someone needs medical attention so that they remain calm and confident. Year 7 enjoyed debating how they might support each other if faced with a situation that may require medical attention. It was wonderful to see and hear such insightful responses when discussing a range of case studies.

    A warm welcome back to our students from their summer holidays. We hope you all spent the time relaxing and enjoying yourselves with your families and friends. Students returned to Hewens College this week with assemblies, presentations and induction activities. The objective is to support our students in finding a suitable routine that will allow them to focus and prepare themselves for the year ahead.

  • Science Museum Trip

    Our Year 8 and 9 students went to the Science Museum where they were able to see the wonderous developments in science that have been made in the last two decades. From industrial machinery and a mechanical calculator, to the wide applications of science in the modern world. With so much information, the day went quickly and before we knew it, it was time to head back. The trip was a fantastic experience for all students.

  • Home Cooking

    Year 9 learnt important home cooking skills on how to create a treat from basic ingredients. They confidently used common pantry ingredients to make a treat. This practical gave students an insight on what they can make at home rather than buying in and the financial benefits of using what they have at home. Students adjusted the recipes and added different flavours to make tasty treats. It was a great lesson and they all enjoyed their new found cooking skills.

  • Hillingdon’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme Summer 2023

    Hillingdon’s Summer HAF programme will be delivered from Monday 31st July to Friday 25th August. Booking is open now!

    Through their programme of free healthy food and fun activities, children and young people can develop new skills, take part in creative and physical activities, learn about food and cooking, and enjoy a nutritious meal each day.

    The holiday programme, funded by the Department for Education, is open to school-aged children from reception to year 11 (inclusive) who receive benefits-related free school meals. We are also able to provide a limited number of discretionary places to vulnerable children that do not meet the Free School Meal criteria,

     

    if you would like for a child you are supporting to be considered for a HAF place, please email HAFprogramme@hillingdon.gov.uk with the child's name, date of birth, address and parent contact details.

     

    Activities this Summer include:

    • Learn to ride a bike or develop your cycling skills
    • Football, Cricket, Basketball, Taekwondo and multi-sports
    • Parent and child cookery sessions
    • Dance, drama and arts programmes
    • Multi-activity camps
    • Remote Control car racing
    • Coding activities
    • SEND activity camps
    • Specialist music and drama programmes for asylum/refugee children

  • Playday 2023 is on 2nd August at Hillingdon Athletics' Track in Uxbridge.

    This is a free event for children and families to have fun during the summer.

    Activities will include:

    • Under 5 area (arts and crafts, sandpit, scooters and much more)
    • Punch and Judy Show
    • Mobile Library
    • Try out basketball, golf, cycling, BMX, Dance and more
    • Visit a real HGV lorry, a Fire truck and Hillingdon Youth Bus
    • Food will be available to purchase
